@amn, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like your dime has been altered to look like a double-struck error.

an altered damaged coin. If you are interested in error coins there is a HUGE section on this site dedicated to error coins. Some really cool error coins have been posted here on the forum.

I agree, it is a hammered coin to make it look like double struck.

Okay well I appreciate everybody's input I think I'm going to go take it somewhere around here I just find it weird that it's in two places there's no scratches I don't know how Vise would do it without scratching it anyways.. it almost looks like it's stretched weird I'm going to hold on to it but I'd be curious to see if it was man-made or not I'd be surprised if it was because just looking at it under the loop I don't see any indication of that but thank you guys appreciate it fun stuff.. learned a lot looking this up

Note the widest area on the outside edge. You can see reeds on that edge. So when it was struck, it was normal then. PSD.

Post-strike damage, aye.
One moment, an innocent dime, only wanting to do what it was minted to do. The next moment, forever changed.

Ooo yeah conspiracy we all sit around Hammer coins so we can come on here and trick you..lol how about I literally found this dime in my hand of change and wanted to learn something about it before I spent it.. I mean can you even sell coins on here, guess what I really don't know the answer nor do I care . Let's use common "cents" though, would I go spend this dime at ten cents, if it was worth more than a dime? Nah I thought I'd check first with you "experts" who have so kindly all come up with different scenarios which goes to show who is really an expert in this field anyway? Maybe the guy at ljn coins that I took it to who said it was a double struck off center coin he might know the answer who the *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. knows, I don't know what the real answer is/was but I was happy to take his $270. I trusted and followed my common "cents" despite my ignorance and instead of spending this one little weird dime I was given 2700 dimes for it.. BUT Guess what, I then got for them 2700 new dimes I traded them in for FOUR brand new tires that I desperately needed. Always trust your gut? No don't think so.. Quote: I literally found this dime in my hand of change This coin is not even round, so it certainly wouldn't fit into a roll of dimes. People come here a lot showing altered coins, this one is the second or third one THIS week! Everybody wants to cash in! Did we say YOU personally did this to this poor coin? Absolutely not! If you got this "coin" in change, you got taken in. It's our job to express what we know about strange (and sometimes normal) coins every day. We know what mint errors look like and what damaged/altered coins look like. YOU asked us for our opinion by coming here, we didn't come to you, nor did we charge you for our advice. We try to help people, period. Best of luck to you.

Quote: Maybe the guy at ljn coins that I took it to who said it was a double struck off center coin he might know the answer... Yes you need to take your coin back to him and see if he'll even pay you a Dime for it. Profanity and insults are not welcomed on this Forum!!!
