This came from 20+ years ago as I am sorting things out. Is this a '90 proof? Thank you, Dave

How can you tell immediately (new to coins) is it that it is not "mirror like" enough? Thank you....

The details are not as deep with your business strike cent as they'd be with a proof coin. Shininess is not enough. to the CCF!

Business strike, yes. Another indicator is that cent proofs have a characteristic 'squared' rim, as seen from the vertical. Google 'proof Lincoln Cent' and check the images.

Quote: Skip the first 4 they are ads Ok John1, you had me thinking for a minute on your comment above. Now I'm laughing in that I understand what you meant about 'skipping' the first 4. It just so happened that there are 4 replies prior to yours on this thread At first glance I thought "what the heck does he mean..." LOL!

Crazydave , your obviously not familiar with proof Lincoln Cents . When you see one you'll see the difference right away .Also a 1990 proof would have an S mint mark .

When you see the two side by side, you will spot of the differences a lot faster: Why do the proof coin have a stronger design? Because they are struck twice. A business strike coin is only struck once. Also the proof coins have a stronger pressure used on them. They proof dies only strike 3K coins. (total of 6K strikes per die) So the design will be crisper. The fields will be mirrored. Depending on the years, they may have frosting on the coins devices. Some add a lot more value to them. Others it is common to find frosted/cameo and DCam coins, so the value in even PR-70 will not be a high price. Always look before sending them in as for potential values. No use slabbing a coin that will not bring back a good premium.
