As I often find with copper, I'm not with NGC on this one. What's your take?

MS62 - maybe 63. I really don't see any wear.... but then again they're not as young as they used to be.

That sure is a lot of rub on the rim, field, and shoulder...they might see that as a cleaning.

Surely this has not been cleaned!

There are horizontal abrasions in the lower 30% of the obverse. Looks somewhat fresh, and is a little distracting. AU-Details Cleaned.
Very nice looking coin otherwise.

Cabinet wear? The front looks rubbed especially the hair down.... I would have to say ms/details... Awesome coin either way!

I think they said MS62BN I believe it has cabinet friction as well. Should likely be MS/details.

with that missing original surface in the date area I respectfully disagree that this coin would grade straight as MS. as far as I can tell that did not occur at the mint and if the coin is MS, which I believe it is, it should have detailed.

Nah ... minor rubs & abrasions (which are almost always, technically, PMD) like these are precisely what define lower MS grades. I've seen far, far worse on straight-graded copper coins. I personally would have had it at MS 61, but if TPGs started detailing copper like this they would have to re-write the standards.

just my opinion but I would not call that minor abrasion. the original surface of the entire area has been removed. TPG may grade it straight but I would not touch it.

One thing is some of those scratches may be on the holder. Agree though Cabinet rub should not detail a coin unless it is obsessive. I do think this looks AU-58
