This has been a difficult date for me, so while I normally avoid the "controversial", I pulled the lever on this one.

What did NGC say? Not my pics, sorry. Assume the coin looks a little worse.

A lot of scratches in ratio to wear. I'd worry that it was cleaned. Maybe artificially toned to hide it.

Still, a very nice coin to own.
I'm going to guess NGC has labeled it
AU details cleaned

Well now, that's a horse of a different color!
I'll stick with AU details cleaned
Your pics are more forgiving.
Still like it!

AU-50 straight for me. I like it if your pics are more accurate.

This coin is too dark for my taste but I believe it straight graded as an AU53 give or take a few points.

not too much rub on the high points of the relief but enough to put it into the AU range 55 or below IMO
I'm not a fan of that magenta seen on both sides in the first pics but I see more mottling than I do signs of a harsh cleaning that was artificially re-toned. I'm at straight graded AU55.

The toning is very blotchy but might be original. Dig/hit on reverse under lower left D in DOLLAR and two more by the Phrygian cap/pole. Some hairlines in the fields mostly right of bust.

This is a very sharply struck coin both obverse/reverse. And if this coin did see circulation it wasn't for very long at all.

AU55-AU58 sharpness, the toning is a big ? though. I'll be interested to see what NGC thought.
