I believe this is a good example of a grease struck cent.
You can see it is missing the last two numbers in the date and the IBE are affected, very faint, as well.

There are multiple die scratch/cracks on the obverse and reverse on this coin.

The obverse of this cent has multiple die cracks which start on the upper rim, one of them is running through the affected area in LIBERTY and another runs into Lincolns head and out of his chin and through the area in the date missing numbers. There are other scratches/cracks running throughout the obverse run directly from rim to rim.

My question is would/could the scratches/cracks be the cause the missing characters or is this just a good example of a Struck Through Grease cent?

Thanks,
Coindom76

I agree grease not scratches on this one. Will you save it in a 2x2?

I would try soaking it in Acetone for awhile to improve the appearance.

Thanks for the feedback.
I would not spend it.
I will attempt to clean it up and if nothing else it is a decent Struck Through Grease example.
Thanks again,

Don't bother cleaning the coin. It is stains usually that alter the plating. So so it just lower the value of any premium you can get for the coin. Best to leave them as is.
