  Man, learning how to post pictures fast sure may me go crazy. Are these things collectible? This would be a fairly high grade coin I believe. Thoughts?

Yes it is what is known as a BIE coin, it actually is just a die chip lodged between the letters (perhaps a broken post on the E). These are fairly common. We joke here that a mid '50s cent without a die chip is the rarer version. Quality control wasn't the best back then and dies where over worked and deteriorating rapidly. Yours is a nice example in the condition it's in and certainly worth keeping. Having it graded? No, not worth the expense. The grading section here on CCF could give you a better idea as to what grade it might be. Nice coin!  |

There are some collectors who love BIEs and would part with $2-4 (perhaps) for one in low-to-mid MS condition. The more 'radical' the BIE, the more value--maybe up to $6-8. Suggest checking ebay for recent sales of Wheat cent BIEs. |

I agree completely with both of the above. But still a neat find. Definite worth saving but not grading. The PGS may even consider it a lower grade because of the error, but even in high mint state not worth getting graded.

Nice Find. BIE errors are pretty cool in my opinion - albeit common in the '50's. Definitely 2x2 worthy.

Go to cudsoncoins.com and look at the BIE section and see if you can find a match. Very nice coin to bytheway.

I have been going through OBW rolls of Lincoln wheats this weekend. At least 1952 thru 1954. I never really paid attention to the coin itself, I am only looking for something to possibly submit(I got the disease real bad) anyway something caught my eye when checking a 1955 roll (so I lied I did check one roll from 1955 but still have three rolls before 1955 yet to do, anyway I started looking closer at the coins and found errors everywhere. The mint was shabby in the fifties I guess. That's why I have been posting all weekend. I have found repunched mintmarks, die cracks, BIE errors and a few where the 9 in the date is filled in or a letter filled in on the reverse (are those just die chips or small Cuds) I don't know all the lingo yet. ça I forgot to paste your response and I appreciated your answer, so the offer stands? The grading section hammers me all the time, I want to learn and learn right now. They all tell me it takes years, well I am too old to wait years. I am a teacher by trade and nothing in this world is too hard once somebody shows you. In my case it may take a few times to catch on LOL |
