I have no experience grading American coins but it definitely looks uncirculated. It was a gift from a lovely member on here. What grade would you say roughly? I'm not sure the member wants to be identified, but I'd like to say thanks again

I'm not sure. My photos definitely are not great and there is more detail then shown in the photos. I'm not sure what the fields should look like but they seem normal to me, it looks like die flow lines to me.

Thanks guys, I would have expected the Merc to be higher then the half. Shows I know nothing about grading is coinage lol. Here is a shot to show the surfaces better. Sorry for the holder but it's just for reference to the surfaces. The back background didn't help and when I full zoom on my phone things start to look weird cuz my camera is meh lol. I'll be putting then in 2×2s today, I need to get smaller ones for my dimes still. I always like to have an estimate grade to lable before there re holdered. Don't know if these photos show the surface colour and texture. When I zoom in the photos start getting less detailed.

I'll say AU-55 or 58, likely dipped.

I'm not seeing the wear. I'd say MS-63FSB, but hard to tell if it's been overdipped with these pics.

I think I was told it's not FSB, maybe close. it seems to have a very nice luster but I don't have experience with knowing what to look for on an over dipped coin, let alone an American one. When you say dipped is that just acetone?

After enlarging the photo, I can see that it just misses FSB. Dipping refers to an acid-based coin dip like eZest, not acetone.

Ahh, I am not sure if it is or not, I think it's just my photos,I'll have to find some good photos online of dipped coins to get a better idea.

Good strike for the year, its about AU-55 to AU-58 almost FSB, could have dipped from the past which is why it lack luster from these pictures.

So I read up a bit on dipped coins and it seems hard to tell even for seasoned collectors. The coin has a nice cartwheel luster on the entire coin but no toning or anything. I'd like a definitive grade to put on the holder. Seems AU-55+ based on opinions. I can't take accurate enough photos to judge properly lol so a base grade is fine for starting a collection. I'd like to know of it was over dipped or dipped in general.
Either way it's a very nice coin and a good starter for me.

the center band cannot be infringed. you can see right in the middle that it is so no FSB. photos can be deceptive. after looking at your walker I think its from the photos as they appear to have the same look. I'm still mid-AU AU55

I don't mind being identified as the person mentioned and the original owner. I really think this coin has never been dipped or cleaned. It has very nice bright cartwheel luster that these photos aren't bringing out. As Wrekkdd said, not a bad coin to build a collection around. I was happy to help a fellow Canadian out.

AU55. Middle band is not fully separated. No FSB.
