Hi guys I'm new here. Needing some help. Can I get you guys's opinion. I believe this is naturaldefects. Right before posting I found some information where the clamp sits around the coin squeezes it which can create this situation and where the letters touch the chips it appears that the letterings actually in the groove of the chip whereas if it was man-made that couldn't be in the groove. opinions please I want to sell this for a pretty penny pun intended.
See I would agree with you however I seen one that has a similar issue and he called it a railroad Defect which is is a reliable source I guess it happens when it goes inside of the clamp and if there's a defect in the metal and it chips basically the zinc starts to rot and that's what you get there do you know any more about that reference
I've never heard of a railroad defect for any coin, and a quick google search confirmed this is not a thing. Idk where you got your information man, but I would disregard that source.
This was one of them click on that link there or copy and paste it it's a YouTube video showing what I'm talking about. And then tell me what you think please
Sorry guys it's actually called something else I just used the other one they said they call it by but they call it some other name it's in that video right there
2. I didn't even watch the entire video. But I'd bet there is absolutely nothing in it that even remotely looks like your coin. Prove me wrong with a timestamp if there is.
Yeah I was thinking that pretty much maybe the case either it's damaged. Pretty much and the zinc rotted or it it may have chipped just a little in the clamp due to the zinc being defective in the penny and of course over time rotted away to what you see now that's what I'm thinking is a very big possibility but it's kind of hard to call it LOL thanks bud I'm going to go ahead and get it sent in see what they say you got any suggestions where to send it
The only reason why I think it is the defect of course after watching that video and also where the letter I n and the letter t and trust are they're actually inside of that breakage area so the tops of those letters are still on the coin it's just in that groove
Just damage to the coin. A partial collar looks nothing like that: The part that is not in the collar, is the distorted larger than normal part of a partial collar: On the reeded edge you can see the area that was outside of the collar that expanded because it was not in the collar.
To see if it is material default or it is PM (post mint) you has to see on at least x500. Better it is x1000. Like this you can see well the fracture molecular disparity.
In general on mint process's the zinc crake on deform shape (crenels) and will be directional with rolling. Your coin show from 35 to 65 deg. missing parts. on the surface the missing part seem to be a place eat by something (ex acid, etc.)
Base on your photos my opinion it is not a mint default but not definitive..
