Just one of the more unusual counterstamps I've run across lately. Almost seems like they were shooting for an artsy effect.

Looks like it was done well after the coin was worn down from circulation.

That is true for many older counterstamps. A worn coin shows the stamp better than a new one.

Artsy yes, perhaps astronomical? I see a partial eclipse on the obv and a comet on the rev.

Nice set of counter stamps there TB. I wonder if it was practice or the intended look.

Just damage to the coin. "Lets see how bad we can beat up a coin" is the game they are playing. On mark, turns it into a cull coin. (face value only coin. Art-sie would be a "Bert" cent

But to a true collector, it is just a damaged coin.

I entirely, 100% disagree completely. This was intentionally done to create some look on the coin, not a hammer smash. There is no way the value of the coin is 1 cent, although probably still in the dollar range. But no one was talking about its value, just the interesting design. No need to trash talk coins others find interesting.

And I agree with the astronomical interpretation, as that seems to be what they were going for here.
