The Philly gold coins of 1876 (other than the double eagle) are all low-mintage issues. The quarter eagle is affordable despite its tiny mintage of 4,170. When this coin became available I jumped on it. What are your comments and grade opinions?

I'm a bit higher on this one than everyone else at AU55. I bet it's got more luster than the photo shows. A slightly better date in the series too.

PCGS liked this coin a little more than most posters. It's not blatantly overgraded IMO but I agree it's not a premium example for the assigned grade.

Brownie points to westcoin!

I'd prefer 50-53 over 55, but close...

The soft strike should be noted, but the coin looks to have pleasing original skin.
