I have this 1942 Wheat cent with interesting damage to the obverse. At first I tossed it up to roller damage but under the microscope it seems deeper than I would expect and obviously only a partial circle. Any idea if this could be damage during minting? Thanks!

That is PMD
There is no way for that to happen during the striking of the coin.

It did not leave the mint looking like this, as there is nothing in the minting process that could produce this effect. This is post mint damage pure and simple.

to the CCF! p.s. Always show us both sides of your coins. Thanks.

PMD (Post Mint Damage)

Looks like something has been spun quickly, like a drill bit, on a slight angle.

Outstanding example of post-strike damage--did not leave the striking chamber in that condition. I'd save it as a fun curiosity.

Looks a bit like someone started to turn it down on a lathe, perhaps with the intent to create a love token.
