I love Shield nickels especially raw, wild and cracked. I am of the opinion that the motif on this series is one of the best in our country's coinage.

I picked this one up sometime back and hope to learn anything I am able to about the die pairings and is there any additional rarity of this cracked die. I've mapped as best I could but can see I missed some cracks above the date on second look.

I'm at an entry level MS on this coin but could easily be convinced of an AU designation by you experts.

Thanks for looking CCF

I'll say EF-45, perhaps AU-50.

I believe I see another die crack above the date under the shield.

Nice shattered die. I'd say EF45 for the grade.

Yet another candidate for my long-hoped-for EF-48 grade.

Interesting die cracks. Wowzers.

The reverse pushes it into AU territory. Lovely cracks.

Lots of the Shield nickels have some amazing die cracks and chips, just like their copper two-cent cousins.

Note that all of the reverse stars are fully struck with clearly defined center lines.
This is not usually seen on coins with less than AU sharpness except if there are die defects affecting the stars.
The color seems a bit flat. I think AU53 is reasonable.

Just shy of AU for me. XF45. Cool example!
