Hi all. What's behind Lincoln's ear? It's not a plating bubble. Kinda looks like the 2006 DDO. Die chip, or something else.

Thanks, Mike

Good morning Mike, I have checked this coin out and do not see something out of the norm, compared to some other 1984's, behind the ear, Maybe I am missing something, could you be more specific please thanks, Mike

IMHO I don't think this coin is the famous 1984 double ear,it looks like a gas bubble to me.

I gotta agree with John1 that it's not the traditional 84 Doubled Ear.

Having said that, it would have stopped me in my tracks that some "Coin God" had precisely placed "something" by the ear to taunt the collector that finds it. I agree, it also reminds me of the 00, 01, 02 and 06 with the extra ear lobes.

Whether it is a die chip or something else, I dont know for sure. But if I found it, it'd have a special place in my finds box.

I think it's a nice looking coin.

Happy Hunting

Here's a doubled ear picture.

Hi. There is a small hump behind the ear.

It looks like the die was repaired, because of all the die scratches. Maybe the die was damaged at that time leaving the indentation. Just guessing? But it just didn't look normal.

With the die scratches on the area around the head, it appears that part of the devices are flattened by cleanings. When viewing a normal Cent from that year and mint, the bump is just part of the design.
