A friend sent me these two photos of a 1957D LWC. I'm not sure what caused this error on the date. The MM and remaining obverse don't seem to show any signs of Machine Doubling or true doubling. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Bill

Hi,

That's classic Machine Doubling.

Thanks,
Bill

A die chip on the 9 as well. Funny how it doesn't involve the mint mark.

Believe it or not, but I've seen images of that classic example many times before. Probably the coins found were all part of a bad run with the machine very loose till noticed. Not every example from that run would be exact, but have varying degrees of Machine Doubling, sometimes mild, medium, strong or in a different direction. Just depending on the play of the dies.

That's very interesting info coop. Quite the small world when you think about it for the amount of coins minted in Denver that year. For what it's worth, your posts and pictures and examples/experience that you dedicate to this forum are truly stupendous. Thank you.

Homie, that is a great example to the extreme. Well done. Definitely a good "keeper" in my book for future reference.

That's an extreme case of MD a nice example not worth anything ,but when there like that they are good specimens to keep a good coin to have for referance on the subject I keep them when they are to that degree.
