I just received this coin in a box of mixed "modern" world coins. This coin is gold and looks to be struck coin and has 2 scratches that look like someone "cut into it to do a gold test". The coin scales in at 4.15 grams and using the Coinoscop App I can't find anything close.

So any help would be nice

Thanks Russ

It certainly looks like a Louis X agnel d'or, minted in France around 1310. If genuine, it is worth a few thousand dollars. The weight is correct and I can't see anything immediately wrong with it, but it would be best to let an expert have a look at it.

The gold content, of this piece are correct for this time period provided. So, it looks like this coin is about a 95% certainty. Can you direct to a web site or a book that I could use to determine the correct dating of this piece?

Well, it's good to know that humans can occasionally beat CoinOScope on an ID.

Erafjel knows these best. Unfortunately the damage obverse (sheepside) is right through the king's name (and your reverse photo is upside down).

But if you go to acsearch, and use Agnel d'or as your search criterion, you'll be able to pull up examples from each monarch that issued these:
Philip IV (1311): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4665841
Louyis X (1315): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1520860
Philip V (from 1316): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4665842
Charles IV (from 1322): https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4665843

It defies logic that a real one would be in the lot you got, but maybe there is still some magic in the world.

It is definitely Louis X - despite the text below the lamb being garbled by the scratch, I can read LVD REX, and the only LVDOVICVS REX who minted agnels is Louis X. He reigned 1314-16 and minting of agnels began in 1315, so the minting period is neatly narrowed down to 1315-16. Which also explains their relative rarity compared to agnel d'ors minted by other more long reigning kings.

What gold content have you measured? These coins should nominally be 100 % pure gold, but more realistically they are 96-98 %.

I'm not aware of any good online resources for these coins. The best book is Duplessy's Les Monnaies Françaises Royales de Hugues Capet à Louis XVI (987-1793), 1999. Volume I covers the coins from this period.

After finding out what it was, I called a buddy, and he has a friend that collects this type of stuff. This piece is just over 99.3% I had it lasered late yesterday.

High, but not unreasonably high. Could very well be the real stuff, in which case you have a gem here. Send it in for grading perhaps.

If it's real, it won't matter.
Like @erafjel and @t360, I don't see any obvious tell of it being a fake, but I'm no expert.

I just found this exact coin online while putting my NGC submission information down. I mean "This exact coin" it was sold back around 2006 in France. The damage in the images is a dead match

@two, yikes that was quite a pick-up then--well done. Would you mind sharing with us what you paid for it?

Well, I bought 30 pounds of Raw foreign "non-US" coinage for $ 8.00 US per pound. So, for everything 240 US dollars, and I also found a 2.5 1945 gold Peso that has 150 US in gold. So, I think this group was a good buy!

here is a web page of this coin that has a web date around 2006.
THIS is This coin! how it got into a junk bucket in the US from an auction in France in 2006 is beyond my imagination.

And previously sold - and considered authentic - by a major French auction house, that is an amazing find!
