There is no connection between a BIE die chip and an indirect die transfer that I know of.

I could have sworn I just read about BIE"s and coop had pictures from 2016 about ghost transfers and the BIE variety with pictures and all. No wonder I didn't see It. Can't see something that doesn't exist

I didn't reed what COOP publish, I think is almost same with me but with photos. The Ghost effect it is a strike problem. This it is most see in older coins and it is an effect done from main cause that the press was not very well adjust for the pression to strike. This it is the quote I have from long time ago from a class with British Mint. Quote: Most coins are only singly struck whereas medals are often double struck. Because coins need to be produced economically and quickly in large quantities to meet demand, they usually receive only one single blow from the dies. The metal momentarily melts and flows under the high pressure and raised temperature, so that metal flows into the "cut out" areas of the die which become the raised part of the coin. If the amounts of metal displaced into the obverse and reverse designs are not approximately equal, the flow of metal may not be completed, leaving weakly struck areas on one, sometimes both, sides of the coin. Also it is necessary for the designer to be aware of the effects of matching raised and depressed areas of design on corresponding areas of the opposite sides of the coin. Hope this help. And do not forgot this was due to the alloy use in that time. The new alloy is resistant to this effect.

I was looking up "BIE" on the CCF and starting reading . heck I might have been in the wrong thread. As I scrolled down reading replies I saw these pictures from coop about the ghost effect. Thinking I was looking up BIE coins I took out the 4 1955-s Lincolns (that makes almost a dozen in the last three weeks and I hate the things) I found with the bie error and tried to match it up to the picture I posted with the arrows. After reading your post I am confused as ever Do BIE cents create the ghost effect. Unfortunately I am still a pup at this but eager to learn. Maybe someone else can clear this up for me once and for all. Yea or Ney

I agree, no correlation between PIDT and BIE cents, except perhaps they both occur in later state dies.

Both are die events. Meaning a break down of the die. One with a crack, then a chip. The other with overall aging of the die.

Quote: Both are die events. Meaning a break down of the die. One with a crack, then a chip. The other with overall aging of the die. I don't want to sound to dumb. The ghost effect is from very worn dies, the BIE could happen any time. Your comments years ago were referring to that particular coin not BIE cents in general? I couldn't find the post again but honestly, I didn't try for 30 minutes. I always read what you have say. Amazing some of the knowledge on this forum and I mean that.

Quote:s this the thread you are referring to? http://goccf.com/t/274483The ghosting and the BIE are unrelated. Yes, I guess I was tired and didn't read carefully . Then I couldn't find it again. Three months ago I couldn't navigate through a computer. Thanks for finding that for me. You probably found it in 15 seconds LOL
