I found this Lincoln sitting in my collection and I had never noticed the mintmark, but as I was checking for any problems, it jumped out. I couldn't find a match on Coppercoins or in CPG. Any ID, or is it a die blob

Thanks
Jim

I don't think it is a RPM. The reason being that it doesn't have an spread/separation between punchings. The marks on the inside are parts of a damaged punched that made the mint mark. It happens some years. Here are a few examples of spread between punchings to watch for:

Here is an example that is a RPM but has the similar marking on the inside.

But note that the RPM is not located in that area, but to the West. The marks on the inside of you mint mark are not a specific shape, but just parts of a punched damaged from use. If you had a roll from that run you would not the same thing on different coins from different dies during that punches time of being used. It happens.

Not an RPM - just a heavily punched mintmark.

Thanks to all of you!

The answers don't surprise me, I was rather suspecting such. I looked at
the underlying and couldn't imagine another "S" or even a "D" underneath. But
I had already taken the photo, so thought I would throw it up .

Thanks again, great resources!

Jim
