Looking through Walker Half's yesterday at LCS was shown about 25 Barber Half's he had purchased out of an album buy in 2020. Due to covid and shops very limited hours he just recently included them belatedly after 16 months. It was the dark feilds that got me. Enjoy and please your grade opinions.

Incomplete reverse rim holds this to G-06 tops for me.

VG08. Really like this one. Honest wear, nice circ cam, consistent color, no distracting hits. If you decide to sell it let me know

G4 for me, a coin without the full rims can't be much higher than a Good in my opinion. This is a half dollar so it would be more obvious than say on a quarter or dime to me. I can see a case for a G6 but no higher than that.

Nice original coin, solid VG obverse and typical reverse rim weakness. Overall grade should still make VG-08.

I'm at G-06, with the net grade aided by the absolutely beautiful circulation cameo.

Any theories out there why some (a minority) Barbers from all 3 denominations show this shadowed...or cameo affect? I admit once I had even a base familiarity with Barbers I sought these out foregoing semi-key issues in favor of common high mintage dates that show this background. I have sold for instance 1899 Philly Quarters for $25 -30 bucks in VG with this darkness so others are obviously drawn. Yes nature takes the path of least resistance so I figure its honest wear no cleanings and coin left alone for decades probably that simple. Only thing that comes to mind similar magic are those fantastic pink walking libertys in G-Fine. Going way out on a limb here - maybe its gasoline vapors,ZeroBar sugar residue and original orange crush fingers followed by 50 years in a tin can. Yes, am that old sorry genXers its a boomer thing you wouldn't understand. BadThad your the chemical guy why are these things few n far?

Strange thought here... Folks diets and overall food was somewhat different 100+ years ago vs today, and that should be evident by folks skin oils being put on coins as they circulate around. That could be an explanation of why these silver coins ended up looking the way they do.
