Hello from Washington State. I found this 2005 D penny that looks like a steel cent, but is not. Weighs the same as a copper penny and not magnetic. Any help with this is appreciated.

@ell, looks like someone may have stripped the copper plating off of a normal 2005 cent. Is it the correct diameter? If oversized, then you have a Texas Cent.

Put the copper cent on top of the zinc cent and see if it is larger, if it is, then you have a Texas Cent.
If not, then you have a cent where the copper has been stripped off.

One way to tell if they were re-plated with zinc, is the dust under the plating that we see as bumps under the plating, show they are re-plated over a copper plating over zinc dust:

Note the texture, that should not be there on an un-plated coin:

Areas of zinc rot can show the copper showing through the plating:

So if you see this on your coin, then it was re-plated.
