Considerable purchase anxiety associated with this aristocratic lady, but I took the plunge.

Grade? Comments? Let 'er rip:

I'll say PR-61, mishandled proof.

I thought proof as soon as I saw the fully struck hair details. Waiting to see what the grade is.

I'll say PR-61 Mishandled, possible details grade if the scratches on the Obv. are on the coin instead of the holder.
Only 1000 proofs were minted. That is one extremely nice coin.

I'll say PR60. First thought was 58, but not really seeing wear, more so some light mishandling.

The holder is bad, but I'm not seeing any evidence of gross mishandling on the coin. There's some mottling on the obverse that concerned me a little.

Beautiful coin. My eyes keep focusing on the fully struck hair detail on Ms. Liberty obverse figure. Granted, I'm not an expert of this series but have never seen a Seated Half with that much hair detail.

Interesting that many CCF members were guessing AU slider or mis-handled proof - yet CAC agree with PCGS view of PR64 as a 'solid grade'. I suppose thats a cautionary tale of trying to grade by photos?

I too was taken aback by the negative assessment, especially after paying $2,166 for the coin.

Coins can change in holders. I would appreciate knowing why folks thought the coin was impaired.

I was a little troubled by the mottling in the lower left obverse quadrant, but in the end I decided I would probably never find such a well defined head on a SLH again unless I was willing to pay a whole lot more.
