This coin is pretty neat These pics took more than 2 hours trying to get it in enough focus so that you could see how everything goes on a half dollar is on the coin. It goes up the rim and I don't even know what to call it! So let me know what you would call this coin and I read that all the coins the mints make are true currency and can be spent at face value.

Agree--'spooned' to begin the formation of a coin ring. Many YouTube videos illustrate the process.

My guess is that was the beginnings of a coin ring. Fairly common to find them completed, but not sure about this particular state.
