Hi Coin Community,

I found this one in some change recently. I would appreciate your thoughts on what's going on with it. On the reverse from the S to the Torch there appears to be a die crack. The rest of it I don't know. PMD or no? Thanks in advance for your help.

that could be a die crack on the reverse - is it incused or raised? Could in incused in is probably a scratch on the coin. if raised, it would either be a crack or a scratch on the die. as for the rest of the coin, possibly Grease Filled Die on a very well used deteriorating die.

@601, I agree that this coin was struck from tired dies, but that linear mark on the rev looks much more like a scratch than I die crack to me.

Thanks for your response Dearborn. The possible crack appears to be raised looking at it from different angles but it is hard to say if its raised with 100% certainty.

Reverse looks like a die clash and the obverse looks like a VLDS. 2x2 worthy.

Looks like a resurrected die that had Feeder Finger Damage on the reverse. Thus the die polishing altered the devices on both sides of the coin. Another example posted here before:

Note the reverse image in the central area? The fields are totally flat in that area. The FFD is horizontal lines on this die:

So with this damage, I can see that it appears that the dies appear to also to have been over polished, to continue using these dies. (thus the weakness we see on your coin)
