Hello,

I saw this coin today, but have come across a rash of fake silver lira in Italy. I was unable to weight it, I am pretty sure it has been cleaned, but the strike looks sharp, if authentic.

Anyone have any ideas? I am unfamiliar with this coin.

Thank you!

R.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of good looking fakes around. I suggest that you find a good picture of a real one, such as on Heritage auctions, and carefully compare the two. Don't buy it without checking the weight, as well.

Thanks Oriole, I did that, but I am afraid, as a novice, I may be missing something. Hoping to find someone with some more familiarity with this coin to lend an opinion. I think it's legit, but I have seen dozens of fakes of these. . .
