Yikes heavy damage to the rim is correct. Looks like it was well worn from circulation before being beat up though.

A totally beat-up, mangled coin. Stay in the coin collecting hobby long enough and you come across hundreds of similar examples across all denominations. May have spent some time on an interstate or may have been caught in assembly line machinery at a truck plant. If coins could talk.

My guess is a lawnmower through it out into the street where it spent the rest of its life.
