I have a question, will Mr Reagan be on the presidential golden dollar coin series? I am not sure if it will last till him or not. And also does anyone think Ronald will ever get on US currency permanently one day.
Thanks so much,
Richard

The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 can be interpreted two ways. One way, it all depends on Carter, who will need to pass two years before his coin in due; if not, Ford would end the Series because it is implied by some that "being issued in order" means that no President can be skipped. The other way would allow for Carter to be skipped to get to Reagan. Regardless, the ambiguity alone would prompt Congress debate the issue if we neared the deadline with a still living Carter. I am sure they would easily pass an amendment to remove any ambiguity and allow Reagan's coin to be made.

I wish. I'm sure Obama will be on a coin before Reagan The Media will make sure of that.

If Obama gets on a coin, and he lives to be 85-90, you are talking the year 2050 or beyond. I am not sure Reagan will ever be on a coin. Personally, I think it is a joke to have Kennedy on a coin just like Franklin. (I am not counting the Presidential dollars). There is a reason that the coin with the designation "the most beautiful" does NOT have a person, but a persona, LIBERTY. The US is based on IDEAS, not people.

Woah, Parklane, I would chill out with that if I were you. Personally this is one of the reasons why I like the Presidential dollar series (I know I know I'm one of the few) because it allows for all presidents to be represented on a coin. Plus, I think its kind of neat that there are now going to be seven different presidents represented on a united states coin twice. (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, F.D.R, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Grover Cleaveland)

In my opinion, yes, Reagan will be. The word "order" does not preclude or disallow skipping. For example, the number 8 comes after the number 6, even if you ignore 7.
Also, the provisions of the act end as soon as each (eligible) president has been honored, subject to paragraph (2)(E). Paragraph (2)(E) does not deal with order, or skipping. It only excludes those still living (or alive within 2 years).

I have to agree with Steve's opinion; however, it only takes one person to raise some doubt about the "intent" of the wording. In this case, I am sure it would be quickly resolved if need be.

Considering if Carter is still alive and has to be skipped he would be over 92 years old the chances are quite good that he will get his dollar and there will be no doubt that Reagan will get his as well. So far only two president have ever made it to the 90 year mark, Ford and Reagan. (Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, F.D.R, Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Grover Cleaveland) There will be more than seven, especially if you count Commemoratives as well. If you don't count Commemoratives you still missed Theodore Roosevelt on the President dollar and the SD quarter.
