Hello again,

I was sifting through some new pennies, and this doubling stood out from the normal MD, DDD that I'm used to seeing...

I know there's a bit of Machine Doubling on the edges of the numbers. I'm not sure what the other more pronounced doubling is called.

Could the date be stamped lightly and then strongly stamped a second time over it?

A complete photo of the coin would help but from what I can see, that is DDD.

I guess I was used to seeing a different form of DDD where the doubling occurred closer to the device's edges.

Look for the distortion on the dates to spot the doubled dies. Forget looking at the outside edges of the devices!

Note the tubes distortion. The distorted look are on the doubled dies we are look for on these cents.

CoopHome: How to spot single squeeze dies easier. Look for the distortion on the devices!

coop, going above and beyond again! Thank you for the images with easier-to-digest short texts explaining those images, which I've already just gone through it a couple of times to better digest the info.

I know I've come across a few coins that looked similar to the variations shown on image 2, but always think nothing of it, as in "meh", if not on the date somewhere else on the coin, it just seems not of a big deal looking, compared to the more pronounced doubling of DDD or MD.

Also for images, number 2, at first glance and for a few seconds, they all look the same, and it was difficult to take note of the nuances being shown. There's no obvious doubling of the devices that I can take note of, besides tiny notches and very minor distortion!

However, if I want to win one, I must train my eyes to notice the thickness, notches/distortion, and pull that coin out, no matter how uninteresting it may seem to me, lol. I'll do that next time with that aim in mind when I'm searching.
