I'm sure many received the email today from CAC regarding their suspension of regular tier submissions due to a "record level" backlog. Hopefully they will open again as they expect by April 1.
However, I was a bit bothered by an aside at the end of the email: "Also- if possible, please use Federal Express as opposed to Express Mail going forward as the Bedminster Post Office has threatened to file multiple grievances against CAC."
That seems very odd in itself; the email only mentioned they were possibly too busy, but no real explanation was given.
For those of us who only occasionally ship high-dollar packages and don't have 3rd party insurance to cover our shipments, is Federal Express a safe alternative to USPS Registered Express mail? While I can insure my registered mail package to $50,000, my understanding is that FedEx (and UPS, as well) only offers minimal insurance for numismatic items. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!

Am I missing something? The local post office is threatening the company because they are getting too much business?

They are a pretty small staffed company. Given how they opened up their member roles I think even they are surprised by how many subs they got. It's really not hard for me to believe they just got swamped and are playing catchup. As for the post office bit, literally no clue. Have you tried calling them? If not I might.

Quote: The local post office is threatening the company because they are getting too much business? That's what I'm confused about - I can't fathom why or how the post office would threaten grievances just because of a large volume of Express Mail, if that is actually the issue. Quote: It's really not hard for me to believe they just got swamped and are playing catchup. I'm also not surprised about that, to be honest. I got my membership in within the last open window. So, I think we're seeing a result of the increase in new members as well as the increasing awareness and popularity of the CAC green bean. Quote: Have you tried calling them? If not I might. Good point, I will try and do that tomorrow.

Guess I'll be holding off awhile for my next sub. Curious as well about the USPS debacle. Though it would be like them to complain about having too much business

Imagine the avalanche of submissions if the Coin Community Forum launched a CCF 'concurrence with authentication' program. Twenty dollars per slab to get in the door, and those slabbed coins passing muster would get a black and gold CFF 'black widow'-like sticker. Soon, top tier slabs would have grading company hologram images, CAC green beans, and CCF hexagons--almost like ribbons on a military uniform. Better alert FedEx.
