that appearance is quite common for mintmarks in that location, probably slight Machine Doubling or DDD

On the 1958-D RPM-002:
http://www.varietyvista.com/05%20JN...8DRPM002.htm
Note the mark on the your coin looks like this on the center of the Mintmark. But then note the Comments of the RPM:
[quote]Comments: D/D Northeast.[quote]
If it a North east. So the other areas are die wear. Just like your coin is showing the same type of die wear. That is what you are seeing on your coin. Not a RPM, but die wear. On the other listings on this year, note these:
http://www.varietyvista.com/05%20JN...%201958D.htm
The RPM-001 is showing die wear on the RPM, but again note, that has nothing to do with the RPM.
http://www.varietyvista.com/05%20JN...8DRPM001.htm
The RPM is in a different direction. So what have we learned here. Read the comments to make sure were are seeing the RPM, not the die wear which has nothing to do with the RPM. If die wear shows up on RPMs, the die wear will always be in a certain direction, regardless of the RPM. Keep looking deeper and you will see that those ahead of us, were not fooled with die wear. We have to keep on our toes on these with studying a bit deeper. Then share what new information you've discovered with others.
