I found this quarter on the floor of a store and I don't understand why its edge is silver, considering the proofs were made in San Fran. Could it be plated? Any ideas?

Yes, it most certainly could be plated. There were thousands of plated quarter sets sold during the State Quarter program. It's not uncommon to see silver, gold and even platinum plated State Quarters.

HSN dump their plated quarters on the 50 States program. After the rubes figured out they are just worth a quarter, now they are spending them.

. It is a plated coin, silver or platinum. To most collectors it is considered PMD.
