I bought this coin from Heritage in 2006 after seeing it in-hand during lot viewing. It was arguably the best large cent in the Dominion Collection, graded MS-65 Red in a two letter ICCS holder. At the time, I thought it was a 66 and paid a premium for it. Shortly after buying it, I submitted it to PCGS, and they crossed it at 65 Red. I recently re-submitted it to PCGS and they upgraded it to 66 Red, pop 1/0. In any case, it is a very nice example and maybe the best out there for a somewhat difficult date. The strike is very good, but not perfect. The color is not quite 100% red, but there is hardly a mark on it.

Submitted in the same grading order, here is the one I expected to upgrade but did not. PCGS/ICCS MS-65 Red. I will point out here that the PCGS TruView photos make large cents look darker and show EVERY tiny blemish. The coins look better in hand. In hand, this coin is 100% red and booms luster.

Last one. Another candidate for update that crashed and burned at PCGS. PCGS/ICCS MS-65 Red. 100% red and just a terrific coin in hand.

My heavens, Rob, you never cease to amaze me. I think it would be hard to get through life always wearing sunglasses when looking ar your coins. I can't wait until we are sitting on Yonge St after the show and passing items around to look-see, but these I'm sure aren't for passing around. Congrats!

Those are stunning! I think I have seen at least 1 of them in hand when I was out in CA a good number of years ago for work and we caught up for an evening. You had some stunning eye candy with you. I remember looking though the George set and putting one back then stopping and pulling it out again. It might have been the 14 but I think it was a 16. A beautiful collection to be sure!
