Hi Everyone, I was searching through my 1970 pennies and after looking at a bunch, one stood out in particular. The date was markedly more delicate and not as thick as all the other coins, kind of like the 1982 small and large date coins. I took some close up pics, and if you compare the two you can see the difference although it is much more obvious in real life under a loop but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them..

@cab, that is an interesting thought, but I wonder if you aren't seeing most of these cents with light circulation flattening on the date plus one cent in more pristine condition. Then the "delicate" thin date would be actually closer to the as-struck condition.

I'm interested to see what others think on this subject.

It's possible one is just worn more than the other or perhaps
one is from a polished die. either way it it is not an error.
Also in the future , please supply a complete photo of both sides.
In this case that could have helped in determining the cause.

Would like to see full, large and sharp photos of the obverse and reverse--best to establish the full context of what we're looking at.

die polishing can reduce the depth of the devices in the die, leading to less bold devices on the coin it makes

Hi Everyone,

Here are some pics of the entire coin. I have a bunch of these, but they all have the thicker broader date except this one. Although, all of them are circulated. If anyone can compare this to an MS example, I'd appreciate it. It would be nice to see if the dates are actually squished down due to circulation. Thanks! Bill

I believe the only differences between these is circulation wear. No variety or error here, sorry.
