Evening gents,
Found this in my daily pocket change. It seems a normal diameter laid against a coin of similar age. No shape distortion that I could tell..weight is 5.446. The quarter beside it is the coin I gauged it by and I thought it might be usefull for comparison. Nothing special about it, seems average. I didn't play with the light ,contrast etc. Only croped. The reverse seems to be similarly affected to a lesser extent. Looking across the coin it seems all points are on the same plane on both sides. I don't have my caliper handy but it seems to be the same thickness as the other coin. Reeding is somewhat sharp..thoughts?

the scratches across the obverse make me wonder if it was sanded, tough to tell from the pics, but if there's been no such damage, this is an example of a coin Struck Through Grease

Scratches suggest abrasive post-mint damage ( PMD).

I wondered about sanding too. It's a shade under weight...would seem an awful lot of trouble for someone with a good hand...if the scratches were after mint damage on a coin struck through wax wouldn't that ruin the numismatic value regardless? I've never run across one this...lacking in feature, and the other examples I looked at were judged by most as having been sanded..the damage on those was more course .Thank you for taking the time to explain the possibility. Little by little I learn.

The weak and uneven rims on the front strongly suggest damage to me.

If your other question pertains to this quarter, then please add a closeup of the word OF to this thread. However, if you are talking about some other coin, then please start a fresh thread to ask your question. Thx.
