Hi all,

I am wondering are the "bubbles" on the reverse of the 1885 SS 20¢ an error? If so what type of error and what causes it?

I saw similar bubbles or blisters on a US Dollar coin.
It was explained to me at the time that the "blisters" appeared as "bubbles" caused by a separation of metals in the coin from "out-gassing" as a result of applied heat.
I'm no expert here, just an offer of something to look into deeper as something similar was found on a coin I had.

I was also told by a dealer its most likely a result of heat, most likely a fire.

This is a silver coin that would have no layers to separate
so I don't think heat would cause it to bubble.
This is why I suggested Occulated Gas Bubbles.
