Chiming in a bit late, but as others mentioned that even with the corrosion and obverse scratches, the design elements, date and much of the legends retain quite a lot of detail. For 8 bucks, I wouldn't have passed up on that! Nice find. And,

 to the CCF Good buy on this early copper! Some of my best coin purchases have been at flea markets. That said, be wary of higher grade "coins" being sold therein at bargain basement prices; this, as the Chinese counterfeits are abundant at flea markets. Happy hunting!
