I'm pretty sure it's a die clash, the raised areas seem to match with the building in the reverse but I haven't found an example yet so figured Id get a second opinion. It's not in great shape but the apparent clash is fairly obvious.

Thanks for the lesson @-makecents-. I remember seeing examples of this before on the forum but forgot this was a thing. I have been much slower in my searches over the last while as life has just been insane. So not a die clash but PIDT. So this wouldn't be considered a true error then, but as I don't have an example it's a good education piece that I didn't have before. Also kind of looks neat compared to other die events I have seen.

Not an error, just a form of extreme Die Deterioration, a die event.

Sorry I typed wouldnt and my auto correct switched it to would rather then wouldn't. I know Die Deterioration events are not true errors.

Interesting to see ghosting on both sides of the coin. Thx for posting @wrek.

The obverse looks more like a clash affecting that area.
The PIDT nickels look a bit stronger on the reverse than the obverse:

So it could be a combination or something else, like the obverse on this coin look more like a die polishing issue on the bridge of the nose from possible other damage to the coin. While interesting, I wouldn't add much of a premium for this one. But either way they are just die events. The dies were normal when created, just showing there age by the looks they have on the dies. It maybe possible the obverse/reverse was changed out on this die marriage? So puzzling, but not valuable. Save it as a conversation piece.

Anything that want originally part of the design and is easily seen with the naked eye I enjoy. I'm not seeing anything going on with the reverse, also cannot confirm weather the area is raised or incuse lol. The areas that look raised areas are definitely raised but it kind of looks like the area in between the raised areas are incuse. It's an interesting die event and a fun find for me lol. As for value, I do ask values more for weather something is collectable or not. To date I have still never sold a coin(other then the roughly 2000 pennies for face value I sold to another member here, they gifted axel a silver quarter so that was a bonus.

I tried getting better images but it's a tough one to capture well on my phone lol. Anyways thanks for the info, so is the obverse a clash or ghosting?
