There are just too many ways a coin can get damaged to even hazard a guess, that is why it is generally just referred to as post mint damage. Whatever it was, it was after it left the mint.
I would say you already knew the answer to your question. You will notice this is the case in most of the posts just by their approach. You have to ask yourself (did it leave the mint process like this)
