I picked up a new copy of Coins Magazine and noticed that they list 1956-1963 Type 1 and Type 2 reverse Franklin Halves. Looks like someone found out that they probably used proof reverses on the halves as well as the quarters. Its not in the new Cherrypicker's Guide. Must be a new discovery. Anyone know the pickup points?

TIA

Harvey

How accurate? Don't know. I found it on a search.

I posted a question about this last fall, and it seems like it's not a popular item even among Franklin collectors.

The above listed link is a good reference though, but once you learn the differences, it will stick out like a sore thumb. The strike seems so much deeper, and the 3 feathers on the wing is very noticeable. I did go through all my Franklins and marked the Type 2 ones just in case someone is looking.

I re-edit the images to have them handy to post in case this comes up again.

If these types were found on Lincolns, they'd be all over e-bay and in all the ads in the various coin magazines.

But, Helas, they are Franklins.

Frankie collectors all around the world are waiting for the other shoe to drop......

Kabiye_Lady - Franklin collectors may be waiting for a long time if they're expecting the collectibility of that series to match Lincolns. Many people do not like them, they have a horrendous design, they are more expensive than other coins, it's a short series without a lot of bang...a lot going against them being one of the most popular series in US coins.

I went through my circ sets of Franklins and found 11 1958 pieces and 9 1959 pieces of Type 2 Franklins. No other dates 1956-1963. Anybody else check their circ Franklins?

TIA
