Hey Everyone,
This 1923 P penny has some real craziness happening on the reverse. I wish the coin was in overall better condition but I still think it's just an incredibly cool looking coin.

In a response to one of my previous posts I believe I remember Coop saying that you can sometimes tell the difference of a strike through from a delamination by seeing if the deformation crosses over the rim of the coin which normally only happens with a strike through.

This coin looks more like a delamination to me but it does impact the rim of the coin so I wasn't 100% sure.

Thoughts?

That's a big 'ol honker of a lamination. Congrats.

For the foliation push over and then strike is no doubt. What push me to go further to see or study, it is the form of the foliation "B" letter (Incuse) and upper a small "S" (raise). I will go to consult what coins was strike in that year for others country with similar strike or letters. I will come back with the result.

Why the central area looks different, on the left wheat, that is a fold over of the lamination on that area. But what is the weight of the coin. If it was a lamination peel, then it will be slightly under weight. If it is over weight, then it might be a struck through debris. So knowing the weight will tell us a bit more, which is which.

Lamination it is. One way to check to see the differences it makes to the weight of the coin.
