Good Afternoon Everyone,

I found this pretty 1984 P Dime today with what I believe to be the 'full torch' designation, (as opposed to the 'full band' criteria) and was wondering if some experienced members could give some advice on this nice coin, for example, is it worth getting graded etc. ... Thank you in advance for looking !

Why spend up to $50.00 to have a coin slabbed to save a 10 cent coin. The grading companies are the ones making money on these.
MS-68
https://www.PCGS.com/cert/83411775
$775.00

MS-67
https://www.PCGS.com/cert/41703584
$32.00

MS-63
https://www.PCGS.com/cert/40507407
$6.00

Check out the values for these on PCGS. Even the BU coins are not worth the lost you would take to have them graded. As a buyer, I pay nothing extra for a slabbed coin. In fact I look even closer to see if it is what the plastic says it is.

Forgive my lack of experience in the US, but who/whom sets the standard for pricing ? When I started collecting coins 40 years ago, this was the same problem which seems to be unresolved today.

The pricing come from the company who slabs them. "The gray" sheets are not considered. They determine the price. Some sell for a lot less. While your coin is nice, it is not a BU coin. The lower grade state BU coins would not bring in at a MS-63. It would be one to put into an album until you get a better example. But not a coin worth slabbing.

Your Dime is Not FT . Do not send in for grading as the value of that coin is 10¢ .

You can't have a full torch without full bands. You can have full bands without full torch.

after blowing up your photo it looks like there is some marks on the verticals near the lower band but its hard to tell as when its blown up it gets fuzzy. so, I agree with everyone above that you do not have a FT and therefore just a spender. even if it was FT it would not even come close to be worth slabbing.

for most folks slabbing should not even be on the table unless you have a very high end coin that could command a premium dollar or a rare coin needing authentication. as stated above I dont pay a premium for slabbed coins either. its overrated and some TPG's miss the mark when grading. thats why we always say to grade the coin not the slab

in any case if you have any questions prior to spending your $$ just post them here to make sure you have what you think you have
