I'll say MS-66RD, possibly 67.

I am so gun shy now with strike quality. I don't know enough about specific years in this series to know when to expect full detail on strikes. Both of the 57's you have posted have similar looks to them. Everything around the coat, back of the neck and head, and ear look soft. Some of the wheat stalks look weak. Is this a 'very well struck' coin with worn dies? If so, then ms66 sure.

If not then from what I am learning we would have to start at ms65. Just learning here so I hope everyone call enlighten me further. Thanx!

Captain, I do not think you pass 65. Old die, hairs very mixt. What I see better is the Die crack on the head, which can attract collectors of. For this year the best I saw was an ANACS 68 with big premium, but I question if was not an proof deteriorate. In that years to have over 66 it is a challenge. Good Luck. My best is 66 and I am not happy with.

Hey my forum friend, I am right there with you, I guess we can learn together. All most all of the later fifties and sixties for that matter , the obverse slowly gets worse and worse. I have looked at thousands of coins over the last four months. It seems to me that the 54 and 55-s don't show much detail. If you find one and it's clean hold on to it.. I have a ms-66+ 1957 and (believe it or not) both these 1957's I have pictures of, have less contact marks then the 66+. with the TPG's it's hard to say. other members who help grade are more knowledgeable than me. I feel comfortable for sure it being a 65, but that doesn't help me and not worth submitting. The coins are beautiful and lustrous but pics are a coin microscope and no less that 20 power. I can't set it lower than that but I don't know how to set it anyway. I say 20X because the manual says I can't go lower than that.

That's awesome now check the PCGS website and see pictures of their 1957-p in ms-67. Maybe you shouldn't you will be mad. Pictures are deceiving both ways but your coin is very nice.

Why did you only get a ms-66 in your opinion?

I don't understand the grading game , just maybe they run through these coins so fast sometimes it's where the dart hits the board after they throw it with their eyes closed.
Unless your photo is hiding something? Like hairlines or scuff marks? heck I don't know. just that your coin looks very good.

I do like the cracked skull. Given the images posted, I'm leaning toward MS66.

I do not understand also, and it is PCGS. Maybe because I am not member. I do not hide nothing, I post the PCGS photos. When I buy this coin come with the photos. You know for 3$ when you grad you can have those nice photos. For this year except 1 or 2 NGC no 68 yet. Other thing it is that in those days they grad a coin in less then a minute. Can you imagine this? and give me a brake for this timing grading please. 1957 is not 2010-2020.

For me this coin it is 67 or 67+. This I consider for this year. Anyways I look for a good like this a few years.

I like it as a 67, beautiful coin! I guess they didn't like all the spots on the reverse and the field below OF AMERICA.
