That mark in the left Feild tho! Not as bad in person. The mark on the L is on the surface. Looks like marker or something but it's not a hit. Otherwise another clean weakly detailed coin. What grade would you give it?

the marks you mentioned are distracting, meanwhile the reverse is beautiful, maybe MS-65

Is that a field scratch across from the nose?

Would like to know more about that 'tadpole' feature west of the nose. Shooting pics through 2x2 mylar isn't helping. Very nice hole filler at a minimum.

It's sitting on top of the 2x2 not in it. Grainy photos are from my phone and surface is a bit grainy as well. Not smooth at all. Tadpole is a straight up scratch. Without side lighting looking head on you can't see it. Looks like a hole the size of a pin head. Catch it With just the right side light and it's a shallow scratch larger then a hairline but with the same appearance. I would not think it details the coin but definitely at least a point.

Damn, good eye! On the nose is another discolored mark, below that is a hit but looks like soft edges and rounded impression. One on the chin and cheek too. Only the scratch is visible with the naked eye. Much smaller then a stand of hair and only in a very particular light. There is another long scratch on the neck, also very thin and only visible in magnification.
With everything you all are pointing out I'm down to ms64 on technicalities but in person it looks great. Paid ms64 money and feel pleased with it.

I do not think it is MS this coin is characteristic to Proof of those years, and do not forgot that till 1955 the proof has two type of Dies Type A and B which was common for all years. This coin is Type A with very week strike on Reverse, but the observe is a brain new Die use. What could be the balance on grading?!!? Hard to say. In general collectors look more to Reverse then the Observe. No feathers on the Eagle and his head is 3 points, then the lower part feathers also very week 2 points; Rim unbalanced and EPU and RICA very light strike, so I thing will be an good 64

Lighting on reverse pic does not show breast feathers well, so don't really see clear evidence of a weak strike. Solid 64, 65 would not surprise.

It can't be a proof, none were struck between 1942 and 1950

Officially they do not strike Proof on those years (43 till 49 inclusive). What they do they use the proof die to strike the coins in order to spare not only money, but also the metal. This practices was till 1964. For this reason I sad it is Type A this coin. The really Type B start somewhere in 50 or 52. Type A 1950 and 1951 me personally I didn't here about but I believe exist somewhere.
