I'd have to say G-04 give the reverse rim, choice for grade.

vg8. Reverse rim weakness limits this coin.

G4! crimany coinfrog your too conservative LOL study this specimen it sings high notes. This coin is so luscious it would get an eagle eye sticker if it was an Indian cent. Froggie your too tough a grader.

Show me ANY grading guide that rates a Barber half with incomplete reverse rims as VG. Please, show me just one competent source! I'll be the first to admit my error if wrong.

I think it is important to look at the entire coin rather than just one aspect.

If you think a TPG is going to ignore that reverse rim, then I respectfully disagree, as I often do with you sir.

I feel confident that NGC did not call this one a G4.

you got me there coinfrog I'm 27 slabbed coins in on the series now and one certainty so far between them (PCGS NGC ANACS) is VG has complete rims. I admit to me if a barber half is VG it better have full rims and some denticles. Problem is the 1890's have cleaned me out beans ham cornbread again until the 1st. Have passed on 20 1892 O's G-4 G-6 that reverse looks AG3 the 92 O imo is the true low grade star followed by the 92 S 96 O 1897 O. May be reinventing wheel but original 1890's in G G+ has set me back the price of a 100 oz. bar and I'm feinen for the 1896 P and 92 O. Barbers oh Barbers

Odd wear pattern to the reverse rim. All other aspects and details of this coin lead me to consider it VG-8 except for that rim issue. Considering that area is on the reverse side, I suspect it got a pass from the graders and bumped to VG-8. $100 coin so nothing especially rare here. I can see the Frogs reasoning however and he would be technically correct.

Based on what's being said here I'm guessing this graded VG with NGC but I'd be calling this a G-06 in my book. I can see how this would have scored VG though. Still a very nice coin IMO. I also looked through some TPG'd low grade barbers and as mentioned above, every coin VG-08 and above has full rim on both sides. Coins at G-06 and below often had some rim wear like seen on your coin CAM. An interesting observation and something I hadn't previously known. You learn something new everyday. -CH27
