This die imo has the biggest, most prominent spread for a DDR on any modern coin. It is also a very rare die. No closeup necessary. Thanks for looking!

Obvious to you certainly, but perhaps not so much to many of us out here.

Really solid coin! As you mentioned, a rare (and very strong) die and this is a nice example. Glad it came in looking good! Congrats!!

Thanks for the tip CH27! Frog this die has a strong spread to the south on the beak, talons and the leaves below. If that doesn't help you're on your on. (Kinda like explaining the doubling on the 55)

@WILL: You state you have 1942 D Washington DDR FS-801, according with some sources. NO you do not have that one and will explain you why.

I collect those quarters and halves. Crazy, most difficult coins to collect. Is my passion from more then 30 years for those.

You state have the what PCGS and Cherry scrap Pickers say. Ok if you like, but you have complete other one. You have the precursor of the last variety for this year. Explain. The war and the production for the war start before thr US was involve, so the country need the metal. The steel was precious metal so the Mint recycle the Dies and the Master Dies Hubs. I will not mention any name here, but it is believe that at the end of 1942 the Denver was short on Quarters, so they recycle an master die hub which make the variety you have. In the photos after the script you can compare himself and understand. I do not have your first variety but the 1943 production which others say 801 with same 1942 date done in the begin of the 1943 and which we can find in very good condition with high state.

Damage because your coin it is at the end of the life and we can not see all the markers. Main: Your the letters has no doubling, second the Right of the leaves no doubling and the arrows South no doubling also. The rest is conform with the last version of the variety. Forgot, the MM is not same with what it is in the second version.

It is also believe that only two Dies was use to accomplish the work and same was restrike in the begin of the 1943 to finish the production, after they re-rework the Hub.

So that is. Enjoy your coin. I am Jealous.

Like 'em when you can see the doubling very clearly--without magnification. Very nice.

Thanks for the comments everyone. This was a real crowd pleaser. I've been looking for one to cherrypick or buy labeled appropriately for over a year. This one was thanks to CH27!
