Stopped by a LCS on my way home from the latest work project today. Had fun catching bats for two nights and then scored a number coins so twas a good couple of days. So looking for some help with this one. Is it double struck in collar and out of collar (the broadstrike)? There is the giant raised Lincoln visible as well as a ghosty normal-sized Lincoln so was the second strike uniface? Once again having trouble understanding how some error coins get to how the are. 1996 Lincoln Memorial cent mint error - double struck broadstrike

More of a reverse die cap, right? The split at 11 o'clock made it unable to get the typical cupped shape I think. Collar failed to deploy, planchet attached to reverse die during strike, another planchet fed in and was struck through the cap (collar still not deployed, so this second planchet would be a uniface broadstrike). Maybe? http://www.error-ref.com/reverse-die-cap/

I should know this but I think the reverse was the hammer die for this year right?

Tanman makes an interesting point, however, I also don't know if this was a reverse die hammer year. This kind of thing's above my pay grade but it is a real nice coin. Amazing pickup!

Looks like a double struck coin Broadstruck as listed on the slab. No collar.

Tropicalbats is once again correct in his diagnosis and reconstruction of events. This is a double-struck reverse (anvil) die cap. This cent received a normal first strike and remained seated on the anvil die as a fresh planchet was fed in on top of it. The two discs were then struck out-of-collar (broadstruck).

Thanks Mike! Unsure if I'm starting to get the hang of things or just lucky. I know there is only so much room on a TPG label, but I do wish some error coins just had more description to them as they are fascinating and the label just still leaves you guessing sometimes.

Some of these have been mislabeled by the grading services as counterbrockages or even "struck-through".

@Trop: I read every one and agree and disagree (I am Thomas), and IMO it is a double strike. I see the signs there. I can not say who say no collar involve but they or him/ her was wright. Maybe ANACS will give the right on slab, maybe. For me it is one of the few coins on this state, who come out before the Mint lines change. This it is a coin to keep for the history and development of the mint.
