Red means the original color. You coin has a coating on the surface of the coin. It is also damaged. So it is now, just a cull Wheat cent. Not an original BU cent.

A business strike red coin will look like the top images. A proof cent would look like the lower two images.

to the CCF

It is not an error, it is damage.
It looks to me like it is a 1953 but hard to tell.
To be considered a red cent, it would have to be in MS condition
which yours is not. It may have been chemically cleaned at some point.

Not an error here, it took a big hit gouging out that trench from rim to rim with a hop in the middle.
I think it is either a 1953 or a 1933 (leaning towards a 53)

How can you explain the top of the date numbers. The height of each number seems to be increasing

Looks like 1952-D. The tops of the date numerals were pushed up by the damage.

to the CCF!

Yes, because they've been gouged and pushed by something. Not an error.

I reckon this coin could be a metal detector find, which would explain the reddish environmental toning. The gouge may be where the detectorist hit it with his/her trowel when digging it up.
Rest in Peace

I'm going with 1953-D but in this damaged condition what difference does it make ? It's a wheat cull .

With this brick red toning and heavy, fresh gouge, I wonder if this wasn't a ground find that got damaged while being dug up.

On this coin the date do not matter. the coin was wash with corrosive short time then put in the acetone. Characteristic color.
