I know this is a very old Vietnam coin that I am not finding in my Krause catalogs, so I am assuming this is 1600s (I don't have that catalog). So I am passing this on to you all here. I see where the four ridge lines emanating from the square hole meet at the edge might be a determining factor here of the type. Also at the bottom of the (reverse?) I see two "bumps" on the rim probably where this coin was attached to a rod holding other like coins being minted.
Its diameter is 46mm.

Appears to be a Minh Mang Thong Bao with Confucian inscriptions on the reverse, from the Minh Mang era (1820-1840), but I suppose it could also be a reproduction made at a later time period.

You can read more about the meanings of your reverse variant in this article by François Theirry, on page 383, chapter 4.25.

This is a very good book.
It includes "very large coins".

Looks like cash coinage from old China. Square hole coins were old dynasty China. That should be a start I hope.
