No Date Buffalo Nickels - For $3.00 - ?

dbrablec Pillar of the Community United States 1944 Posts	Posted 02/05/2009 12:57 pm i have been pawn shop - shopping for a jeweler's loupe. (not a very productive effort, by-the-way). I stopped in one pawn shop that had quite a few coins in a display case, including several no date Buffalo nickels. when I asked for the price, the shop owner weighed them, and tried to sell them as "silver" and priced them as "scrap" silver. he wanted $3.00 each for them. when I told him there was NO silver in the buffalo's, he basically said "REALLY", but wouldn't come down to a reasonable price. I'm guessing he bought them as silver coins, and now needs to sell them - for silver content. I guess not all pawn shop owners - knows the value of everything in their shop. There are may coins which are one year types and some of them are rare. Even a dateless coin can be identified for those type and they can bring a good price. 1793 Half Cent, how about the draped bust small eagle half dollar. Two year only type and it's a five figure coin in AG. I'd pay $1k for a dateless one. The same thing goes for some coins which are not types, but are recognizable varieties. A dateless 1916 Standing Liberty quarter is over $600. I'd probably pay close to $1k for a dateless S-1 chain cent. There are plenty of others. Report this Post to the Staff
