Hi there I'm a little new to the variety aspect but picked up a couple coins today from my local coin shop. I know there is def some Machine Doubling but it looks like there is more than just that. Just kinda want to verify. Thanks in advance.

@jam, can you please add the date and mint to your thread's title? Including that helps with the site's search functionality. Thx!

Ok thx for improving the title.

Hmmm. Even with these new pics I'm not seeing either MD or a doubled die. Which design features seem to be doubled with the coin in hand?

Not seeing any doubling, the ear might be a die crack.

Finger prints on the coin, some staining. But when the coin was freshly struck, it was a very nice die state coin. Thus the full size of all the devices. Thus often new searchers know something is different thinking the devices are looking fuller, but it is the die state that you noticed. Also the least, of strong Machine Doubling like we see on so many of the coins on the 1968-1972 era. If this coin was BU, it would be a keeper. But you might want to save it until you finally find the desired EDS BU example. But that is what you are seeing different on your coin.

That is what you are noticing. Often mistaken for a doubled die, because something stands out as different on your coin. Being one of the early strikes of a new die, makes them look different. So less often seen that most people over look them. But they always makes you look back at them. They smile for the camera, but often are missed.

CoopHome: What does an EDS (early-die-state) coin look like? They are the beauty queens that are often overlooked.
