Hello all, I'm here with something strange.

I was looking through some dimes and came across this weird specimen. I don't like to assume what this is as I'm 0/3 on possible errors lol.

Hoping anyone can provide some expertise. Thanks and much appreciated.

. Looks like a VLDS=very late die state issue to me.

Thank you for the input so far. So to clarify then for less wasted time on my end — the way the nose looks extended like FDR has been telling a lie, and the chin outline, and essentially all around the head, is caused by VLDS?

I believe so, the combination with the low quality die and extreme wear for a modern coin leaves for a funny effect.

Also a late die polishing that altered the fields. So deep it altered the outline of the bust area. Some circulation damage on the reverse rim. A dimes you might save to show to a new collector as what happened to this dime at the mint with the die events and what happened after in circulation. A coin can have more than one story to tell.
