Hi,

I recently came into some old coins but I have no idea where to start with identifying them. I also wanted to know if any of them might have some value. Please if you can help me identify some of them, it would make my day.

Thanks,
Erwrox

@erw, first welcome to CCF. Second, you have a bit of a mixed bag there, including some coins that are not ancient. In order to give each coin the appropriate level of attention, it is important to open up a new thread for each coin. Thx.

To narrow it down a bit:

1) 3 Kreuzer - Karl VI Prague
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces80603.html

2) Byzantine

3) Tibetan Tangka, something like this:

4) Chinese cash coin

5) Clifford's Tower Conder Token
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces108349.html

6) Byzantine

7) James I sixpence (there are several types with slightly different busts - there's a date above the shield)

8) Tiberius Bronze As

9) Ptolemy of some sort

Ok I believe the mintmark on the James I sixpence is a trefoil, which makes it either:

1613 (2nd issue, 4th bust)
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces33223.html
or
1624 (3rd issue; 6th bust)
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces167359.html

Because of the collar, I'd guess 1624.

The first Byzantine is a Leo VI follis from Constantinople
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces19712.html

The second Byzantine is a 20 nummus (K), '+' type, from Thessalonica from Justin II's regnal year 4
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces146226.html

By the way, these are all good, interesting coins, even if not hugely valuable.

The royal year on the Ptolemy tet is LIH (18). ΠA is in the right field. That may narrow it down some.

This is a real guess - the Chinese cash coin might be Song Dynasty, Emperor Zhezong, inscribed Shao Sheng Tong Bao or similar. I think I can see Shao (top) Tong (right) Bao (left). Not sure about Sheng (bottom). Not unlike this:

It might be Shao Xi Tong Bao...

But there doesn't appear to be anything on the reverse.

Tong Bao just means universal currency, so it's on a lot of coins. But it dates it to Tang Dynasty or later, because it doesn't say e.g. Ban Liang.

Based on that, it looks a lot like:

Ptolemaic Kingdom. Cleopatra VII Thea Neotera. 51-30 BC Tetradrachm. Alexandria mint. Dated RY 18 (35/4 BC). Obv.: diademed bust of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis. Rev.: eagle standing left on thunderbolt; L IH (date) above headdress of Isis to left, ΠA to right. Svoronos 1832.

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces295827.html

And a little less like:

Ptolemy XII (80-58 BC), year 18 [64/3 BC). Alexandria. Tetradrachm.
Obv: Diademed head of Ptolemy I right
Rev: Diademed head of Ptolemy I right / Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; L IH in left field; ΠA in right.

That cash coin is a 2 cash Shaoxing Tongbao from the Southern Song Dynasty, minted in 1131-1162.

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces140638.html

*Could be a rarer 1 cash if it's around 24 mm

Come to think of it, that Shaoxing could also be a different variant as well. Please provide the diameter, Erwrox.
